How to make Thanksgiving dinner via YouTube

Thanksgiving Dinner

You can manage Christmas almost entirely via YouTube, and do the same with Super Bowl (or other occasion) chili recipes. But the mother of all multiple-prepared-dishes holidays is Thanksgiving. Can you get at that via YouTube? Of course. In fact, I used this plan of attack last Thanksgiving in Minneapolis when my parents came to visit my wife and I. So if you have a limited base of cooking/prep knowledge, come along. This is a doable plan.

Turkey

This is the cornerstone for most people. The entire process on a turkey is typically 8-12 hours or more, and I doubt anyone wants to watch a YouTube that long. But … there are still tutorials.

There’s even one with Gordon Ramsay:

And here’s one from the aptly-named Easy Cook Videos:

Mashed Potatoes

Big thing for a lot of other people. (My dad is huge on this shit, and thinks his mashed potatoes are the best in all the land, which I suppose every father north of 60 has believed at one point in their lives.)

Corn Casserole

I actually had this at a work Thanksgiving event a few weeks ago. I’ve never really had it at family gatherings, but it was pretty blockbuster at the work event, so I decided to include one here.

Green Beans and Almonds

Delectable.

Generalized Look At Side Dishes

Cornbread

I’ve actually been tasked with making this tomorrow, so … I should probably give a rip through these videos.

How To Carve A Turkey

Last year was either my first or second turkey (I can’t remember), but it was definitely the first time I had the potential option of carving a turkey. We were ripping through YouTube on Apple TV to try and figure out what to do. Here’s a few options.

The Overall Meaning

This was literally not possible even about a little over a decade ago — you needed to have cookbooks, or wise-old wisdom in the form of older generations, or newspaper clippings, or things along those lines. You couldn’t turn to the Internet and cull together 10-12 different options for dishes and preparation styles.
