Go to about 2:30 on the above video, if you wish. Beyonce is doing “Upgrade U” live in Los Angeles, wearing a flowery yellow dress, and suddenly, Jay-Z — who is a part of that song if you were to purchase it on iTunes — emerges from beneath the stage to do his part, sending the crowd into (literal) hysterics. I won’t lie: back at an old job I had, when bored, I’d watch this clip maybe 2-3 times a day. It’s just really cool, intense, a good vibe, and it makes it seem — as do many things about them — that they’re a power couple, but also a legitimate couple (say what you will about the Blue Ivy isn’t theirs rumors; in my mind, that’s all bollox).
They’re touring together this summer. It should be pretty awesome. Here’s the preliminary list of dates, with more likely to be announced at some juncture:
- June 25 – Miami, FL, Sunlife Stadium
- June 28 – Cincinnati, OH, Great American Ball Park
- July 1 – Foxborough, MA, Gillette Stadium
- July 5 – Phiadelphia, PA, Citizens Bank Park
- July 7 0 Baltimore, MD, M&T Bank Stadium
- July 9 – Toronto, ON, Rogers Centre
- July 11 – East Rutherford, NJ, Metlife Stadium
- July 15 – Atlanta, GA, Georgia Dome
- July 18 – Houston, TX, Minute Maid Park
- July 20 – New Orleans, LA, La Mercedes-Benz Superdome
- July 22 – Dallas, TX, AT&T Stadium
- July 24 – Chicago, IL, Soldier Field
- July 27 – Winnipeg, MG, Investors Group Field
- July 30 – Seattle, WA, Safeco Field
- Aug. 2 – Pasadena, CA, Rose Bowl
- Aug. 5 – San Francisco, CA, AT&T Park
Pretty much all major venues — football stadiums, etc. — as you’d expect. July 4th is a Friday this year, so that weekend could get a little bro-y or girl-time-y for some residents of Brotherly Love. Beyonce and Jay-Z closed out the Ms. Carter tour together in Philly last year, and ’twas also pretty intense:
Jay-Z has ties to the city through Made in America, as well:
The other date that might be totally off the proverbial chain on this tour is July 18th (a Friday night) in Houston, which is Beyonce’s hometown. She gets fairly emotional doing shows there, as referenced by:
There are other very anticipated tours this summer — Lorde, Haim, Arcade Fire, Outkast, etc. — but this On the Run situation should be pretty awesome.
