Expertise comes from both academic study and lived experience. The GOP of today is inherently racist, homophobic, transphobic and sexist — thus it isn’t getting the lived experience as an institution that it needs to be a hub of true experts.
Having a bunch of credentialed straight older white men rail against the lived experiences of the communities that GOP extremists attack isn’t going to be perceived by discerning people as “expertise,” and with each passing day, those views become ever more extreme and ever less appealing.
The GOP will need to become more woke — and thus more welcoming of diversity — before it can claim expertise on these issues.
